I have finally completed my Portfolio assessment and I got some pretty useful advice from people working in the game industry as well as from my greatest artistic inspiration, Stjepan Sejic. This assessment has really made me look at my future on a different angle, I originally intended to become a concept artist working in the game industry but why should I limit my talents to just games? I think instead I'll strive to becoming a freelance illustrator, this way I don't have to work for a company only doing character or environment concepts. Of course it would be easier working as a concept artist for a company because the job is more straight forward, but the way I've started hearing the way concept artists being described makes me feel like I will start getting bored of my job very quickly. Similar to the way I've been getting tired of making sprites for my group assessment, it has gotten very repetitive very quickly (although I suppose repetitiveness and making sprites sort of goes hand in hand).
I'm still going to complete this course, obviously, it is good to have knowledge in other fields and I enjoy programming even though I struggle a bit to get a grasp on it. Although my school work takes up a lot of my time I need to make time to get my name out into the world and increase my artistic skills, so, like on this blog, I will put my work up on as many forum pages ant art based sites as I can. You have a better chance of winning the lotto with more than one ticket. I'm definitely going to keep using the portfolio I made, that was the whole point of the assessment, but will I be able to keep track of so many accounts? Only one way to find out.
