Drifting Memory

I just realized that I did a post early this month that covered my break and getting back to uni... oops. No matter, I still managed to bring this blog up to date, so it's all good.

Lazy Break, Busy Tri

I was really hoping to post here sooner but unfortunately I had a pretty lazy break then I was punished for it by losing internet for the last week before starting my busiest trimester yet. I also wanted to get more art done which I didn't, so I've been kicking myself over that. But now that I'm back at uni I'm looking forward to making more games.

So far I've completed a one week prototype and had it play tested, now I'm head of an unnamed group for out next project. The two player turn based game we've named 'Virion' (there were no objections) has begun taking form. It's still just documents and we need to pitch the idea on Thursday but I have high hopes for it.

Although a lot of my time will be focused on this project I also have to prepare to give a presentation on Friday about "Aesthetics". I'm still working on what about aesthetics I'm going to cover, I think I'm going to talk about how what we find visually appealing has chanced significantly over the eras... hm.

Okay I've got a topic now I just need to research it. Four days to create a pitch and a presentation on aesthetics, bring it on! (I say four because the pitch is due on Thursday and I don't get home until about nine that night so I won't have a lot of time to perfect my presentation before Friday).

So this was a pretty short post, I have a design I want to put on my art blog and I should have some more on the way... hopefully. But apart from that I will be focusing 90% of my attention towards uni so it may be a while before I do another post, but not too long I hope...

Back For Round Two

So I'm back at uni for Trimester two after three weeks of unproductive holiday time and I'm looking forward to getting back to work. I told myself that I had to work on scripting and game development over the holidays but instead became very lazy, also I never did any artwork to put in my art blog and on Deviantart. These are things I have been kicking myself over but hopefully I can replace my lazy attitude with a productive energetic one,

I need to do this because for the rest of my time at uni I will have A LOT of work to do as well as an internship at the end. My old daily routine also needs to be altered to keep my work up to date but also leave a bit of time for skill improvement. The road to greatness is long and difficult but I shall reach the end and continue walking, it's time for present me to get serious and work hard for future me's sake.

Quick Update

Just doing a quick update, not a lot is happening at the moment.

I've decided to perfect my style before actually starting my comic project, I'm sort of finding it hard to do though on a wacom tablet. I need to start saving up for a cintiq.

I've restarted my game project. Not sure if I've mentioned it before, if not it was originally a uni assignment that I want to finish for iOS and put up on and app store. I've still got a long way to go, so far I have the enemies moving and fighting correctly as well as the player. I still need to do the main menu, player selection, game modes, score table, and ending (same thing weather player wins or loses). I've also change how I want the controls to work, originally i was going to have a joystick on the bottom left of the screen, a bomb drop on the right and the player shooting in the direction he/she taps on the screen. Now it's pretty much the same thing but instead of the joystick the player tilts the screen in the direction they want to travel... not entirely sure how this mechanic is done in C# scripting.

So I definitely have a lot to do but I'm just being casual about it at the moment, my main priority is my uni work and assessments. I don't have an exact due date for it but I would like to have it complete before the end of the year. I've haven't put up any work on my other blog in a while but I'm currently working on a quick piece related to my comic project, just as practice though, not being very professional about it. I recently bought some comics drawn by my mane inspiration to help me improve my style, it's hard traversing from my old anime style to something more western.

I believe that's everything that's happened in the last month, I'll try to keep this blog as updated as I can but lately it's pretty much been the same thing; uni, game project, art. So, till next time.

New Year Goals

It's been quite some time since my last post (or at least it feels like it's been a long time), I guess there hasn't been anything interesting enough to write about. First of all, Happy New Year! I have completed my first year of uni and so far I'm pretty happy with my results (I say so far because I am yet to receive all my marks). Christmas was pretty laid back, my family decided not to do presents this year, which I understood, didn't stop my ten year old spoiled cousin getting a tower of toys :p

I anticipate this year will be very busy. For one I start on group assessments which pretty much means making a game every few weeks. I also intend on starting my first comic project this year (technically I've already started, but it's practically only a few pages worth) but like my last comic project (which was a failed attempt... might redo it at some point) I don't want to say too much about it until I'm further into it.

I'm a bit nervous about the amount of social interaction this year will contain, I'm not one for meeting people which (like I've said before) needs to change, but it's slowly getting there. Being in the games design course I'm not entirely sure what I can offer to future teams this year as I will be working with programmers and animators. My primary talent is art and my programming skills are very limited, I guess I will just have to wait and see what happens but until then I will spend these holidays to work on art and practice programming.

Not Dead Yet.

It's been a long time since I last did a blog and this one is to show that I'm not dead. I have been really busy with uni work for the past month, but that's no excuse for not posting, to be honest I forgot I had a blog n__n; But I also forgot I had uni blogs to do (which is what reminded me of this blog), I've been really forgetful and lazy lately...

On an related note, I haven't done a whole lot of work on my first game project, at least not since I finished what was required for the assessment it started as. I also have a couple of comic projects I need to start on (and I mean actually start, not just character designs and such) but that would be easier to begin after the trimester is over and my assessments are out of the way.

I was thinking of putting a link to my game project here but I think I'd rather have as little people know about it as possible for now, paranoia reasons, I don't want someone stealing my idea and making money from it before I get the chance to do it... if it ever becomes good enough to make money of course.

I've done a bit more art but my skills still need work, serious work. I want to get a Cintiq tablet but I don't know if that will increase my skills, I think I'll try to increase my skills with the Intuos tablet I have now before I get an upgrade.

I think that's about everything so I'll leave it there until next time.

New Blog

I just started a new blog for my art (rowanpatmanart.blogspot.com.au), hopefully I will keep it up to date with all the sketches and final copies I do now and in the future. I've already started with the first piece of my "out of comfort zone project" and it can be found on my new blog. I think next I'm going to start working on scenery or animals next, either way I need to get better at both... I need to get better at drawing everything actually. I really should have more sketches done by now but unfortunately I'm quite easily distracted by games. Hopefully I'll have more up withing the week.
